North Americans are not the only people that are experts in junk food. We have a say here in Brazil that: We copy everything from everybody all over the world, but we do it better. It’s a joke but you will understand in a bit. Brazilian Junk food is a little bit different from North American’s. First of all: It has to be big and have a BIG variety of ingredients! You will understand in a bit. The other characteristic is that we can produce anywhere. We have TONS of small business only producing this two meals.
Let’s start with one that you all know pretty well: HOT DOG, in Portuguese we say ‘Cachorro-quente’ which means exactly the same thing. The difference is inside the bun. A true Hot Dog in a Brazilian style has at least these items: Bun, tomato sauce, sausage, corn, pea, boiled and smashed eggs, mayonnaise, parmesan and shoestring-potatoes (it’s like very thin chips.)
This is a big one, and VERY good!
This is the basic recipe the final result it’s very tasty. That’s why I ate only one hot dog in Canada, it was only a sausage and the bun with ketchup… :p We Brazilians are at least creative.
She will kill me because of this picture :p
The second dish of today is more local and it will remember one that we all know. This is called ‘XIS’ which might remind you of a Hamburger, but in the Brazilian way (we copied the hamburger and made it ‘better’)
In a ‘XIS’ we have: Special bun, mayonnaise, hamburger meat, lettuce, tomato, fried egg, ham, pea and corn. Again, this is the basic one; we have several types of recipe for this meal. We can change the meat, sauce, fill etc…
You’ll never go wrong with a ‘Salad XIS’, it’s traditional.
XIS you can mostly find in this south Brazil region. I have some friends that moved out from my state and they still can’t stop thinking about it :p
I hope you’re all hungry, because I need one of those right now! :p

Culture is winning in the poll, so I decided to start my new challenge… write about things that I know for ever (brazilian pine)… and try to make it entertaining!
As I said before, winter is starting here, and we have a lot of habits when this time of the year arrive. This is a very souther habit by the way, here where I live we are used to eat “PINHÃO”(/pi’ɲɐãũ/) in English I found several ways to say it so I will say them all:
Pinion, Araucaria Seeds and Monkey-puzzle seeds. This is similar to large pine nuts… but different, take a look in the tree that it grows:
They grow alone very tall in the woods, it’s very beautiful
These trees are incredible, some people say they are living fossils! their average size is 40m long and 1m thick.
We can find in this trees, around them actually, big green balls that have the pine nut inside. Look the way they are inside the ball, it’s very interesting!
These are the seeds of the tree, and we eat it 😀
Well now, to exercise, I produced a little video to show the steps to prepare the Brazilian pine nuts.
I hope you liked it! Please leave a comment to say if I’m going in a good direction 🙂 and if you’re liking it, or not.
Obrigado, ttyl

So, here I am! As promised, I will keep up my blog with my Brazilian side for, at least, the next 4 months.
The purpose of this initiative is simple and I hope you will enjoy. First: Show some of my “roots,” the place that I have come from and things that are nice, and not, about Brazil. Second: Develop some skills such as: English writing, blogging, creating interest and relationship with/in a audience through a digital media. Third: Have some fun (and hopefully you’ll all have as well.)
So, to start in a democratic way,as Kathy taught my class, If you look down you will see a POLL! I’m asking you guys to choose which of those subjects you would be more interested in.
There are many ways to keep up with the blog – Newsletter, Twitter, Facebook, RSS and some other ways to reach my blog.
Feel free to comment in any post to say from: “\o/” to “I didn’t understand a word of what you’ve said“
The blog also has some cool pictures from these months I was in Canada. Check the Photos page out.
